90-yr-old Driver's Car Hit by Train

The county coroner's office said a 90-year-old Erie-area man with vision problems died when he drove his car onto a railroad crossing and was hit by a train.

Louis Rzodkiewicz, of Harborcreek Township, was the only person in the car when it was hit by a CSX train traveling about 60 mph just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Witnesses told police and the Erie County coroner that the car hit the crossing gate and stopped on the tracks. The gate and warning lights were working properly at the time.

The coroner has ruled the man's death accidental as the result of trauma injuries.

Police say the force of the collision tore off the front of the car.
